Well written article as usual, and you painted the reality of this situation to a T. Cornyn can win in November, the democrats will do anything and everything to beat Paxton. Republicans who want to keep Texas red and keep control of the Senate need to vote for Cornyn.
Cornyn has had 40 years to fix things - Cornyn supports Trump when he needs something from Trump. Paxton is constantly for Texas. I disagree with your take but I'm glad we live in the USA and each can have their opinion.
Check out what Cornyn spent on the race as compared to Paxton.
While we understand you point and it is valid in the sense of he’s been there for a while. The main juxtaposition we find is that Paxton is not the person to pass the mantle to. If there was a serious contender to take over, we would be all for it, but it ain’t Kenny. All of the polling from the beginning of this race has said that Paxton would have a hard time in the General Election. This is even more evident with the nominating of Talarico. From talks with some of Trump’s political folks back in September, they were mad at Paxton for throwing his hat in the ring. If this thing goes to the full runoff, there will be millions upon millions of dollars spent on this race that could go somewhere else. As to Paxton always being for Texas. This is where we can’t disagree with you more. Paxton has been under some kind of investigation for 10 plus years. He and his office screwed up multiple briefs, keeping them from accurately defending their positions against liberal laws. The only thing that kept him from being impeached is his now estranged wife, and the stranglehold Texas Scorecard has on the Texas Senate. How does someone with a $150k salary have all of these investment houses? Trump understands the numbers when he’s trying to keep a majority in both chambers, he needs sure things in the General Election and not chaos.
I live in North Texas, McKinney, where Ken Paxton is from. I know Angela as do many of my friends. We are all put out at how she handled filing for the divorce and couldn’t wait until she got to the courthouse parking lot to post she had filed for divorce on social media! Who does that?
The other issue I do not see you covering is Paxtons continuous success to do what is good for the state of Texas. But my biggest concern that you are not covering is the Islamification of Texas! This should be a huge concern for Texans and Ken Paxton is doing what is needed to stop this and has been for a while. John Cornyn however has celebrated the Muslims in Texas and only until recently did he jump on the platform to stop the Sharia Law issue. Cornyn is doing what he always has done, stick his finger up to see which direction the political wind is blowing! Why is it that Cornyn had to spend $69,000,000 for 907,25 votes ($76 per vote) whereas Ken Paxton spent $4,100,000 for 881,115 votes ($5 per vote).
Texans are not stupid! They see who Talarico is and between now and the midterm, many more will see who this false Christian is. You want to say Texans are about fidelity and one of the reasons why Ken Paxton will fail in the midterms! The only fidelity Texans are concerned about in this race is the fidelity to Texas and to the American people. Yes Paxton has some faults but tell me who doesn’t? Our Christian faith and beliefs will turn us away from Talarico no matter how much money the Democrats dump into this state. I believe we already saw how big money played out between Cornyn and Paxton. Had Wesley Hunt not have run, we would be seeing Ken Paxton heading for the midterm as the Republican nominee because the people in this state are sick and tired of do nothing Cornyn. We see how hard Ken Paxton has worked for Texas and recognize he will do the same as the next US Senator from Texas.
Please explain what actual successes you believe Paxton has brought to Texas? Not what he has filed, but actual victories. We think if you look at his actual record of losses, you’ll see that along with his terrible moral character, he is definitely not the person we need representing Texas in DC. We wouldn’t even want him representing anyone on Judge Judy. He is as corrupt as they come and the only reason he’s even able to run for this seat is because his former play-date buddies at Texas Scorecard have bought off the Texas Senate.
Let me make this detailed for you but not waste my time. I as a Texas citizen I not only follow Ken Paxton on his social media accounts but I also receive the emails from his office for every press release. There are 252 pages of press releases showing not just his pursuits made but also his victories. You have every opportunity to go check these out and see why the majority of Texans will be supporting Ken Paxton.
Unlike John Cornyn needing to do smear campaign ads, Paxton has revealed the real Cornyn as he has tried and failed to make his plea to Texans on how he has stood with President Trump and the big lie that he has voted in support of Trumps policies 99% of the time!
Again I will say, Paxton may not be perfect and even his daughter Mattie defends her dad saying he isn’t perfect but then who really is? People who truly care about having someone stand up and represent the State of Texas look for fidelity to them and Ken Paxton has done just that.
Your accusations hidden behind an anonymous name Texas’Truth does not give me any reason to believe you are a legitimate Texas Truth teller, but a John Cornyn puppet to spread even more propaganda about Ken Paxton. I tried to find who you were before replying, but you have that hidden very well. My reason to come here to read your substack post was only because a friend of mine who is a Dade Phelan backer shared your substack on her Facebook post.
I will be leaving your substack now as a subscriber because I see no reason to read any more of your posts. I wish you well and look forward to Ken Paxton becoming the next US Senator from Texas.
Congratulations. You are exactly the kind of person who has been corrupted by an illogical group that believes everything the fringe and talking heads tells them. We hope you continue searching for echo chambers that tell you how great you are. That’s not us, because we believe in critical thinking. You obviously don’t possess that skill. God bless.
Unfortunately you don't understand or able to comprehend what we wrote. We never said we are in love with Cornyn, but with a 2 person race as it is now, he's 1 million times better for our party, but more importantly, he 1 billion times better for our State. You use the AG's office's own publication for your reference. That's like trusting a company's website reviews to determine how good their products are. They would never put bad reviews on their own site. You just eat it up like you have googly eyes for your boyfriend Kenny.
This is so spot on. Texas GOP needs to take a lesson from the 2017 special senate election in Alabama. If we nominate rotten candidates like birds of a feather Roy Moore and Ken Paxton, expect Senator Doug Jones and James Talirico. But instead of getting a Clinton, 1990s style Democrat, Texas would get a smarmy, self-righteous, insufferable progressive. For 6 years, rather than 2.
Besides, Cornyn’s staff is elite; losing John would be a huge blow to Texas and GOP leadership.
I think people don’t like John because he isn’t a loud jerk. Just quiet, conservative efficiency.
I’m in the camp of a middle-aged white suburbanite who wants term-limits and thinks Cornyn should have retired this cycle and named a successor. I’d love to see a fresh-faced conservative take this important seat as Texas becomes more and more important on a national level. Steering the nation to do things “the Texas way” is a very important role in the decades ahead, and it should be a well spoken leader in his 40s or 50s leading that message.
Paxton checks virtually every box for a good next leader, except the one he can’t overcome; he’s an abject failure morally. If we want Texas to be a leader nationally, we can’t do it with men or women who are so easy to attack personally. That’s not naive or wishful thinking. It’s principled conservatism which the Republican Party USED to say it believed in.
So I’d preferred Cornyn to have stepped aside and named a successor for the next 20 years, but he DIDN’T retire. And Paxton DID try to take the throne. So here we are. The only principled choice is Cornyn. Hopefully we’ll all recognize that this is his last election and we’ll have another choice in 6 years to anoint a new flagbearer for Texas in Washington. Hopefully that acolyte is working closely with Cornyn and other party leaders now and will spend the next 6 years building a brand and message that will unite Texas behind him. Until then, Texans need to acknowledge the moral failures of Paxton are disqualifying and reject him in this runoff. To do otherwise risks handing this important seat to the leftists (not just the Dems) for at least 6 years. A lot of damage can be done in that time. Frankly, I don’t know how Talarico could govern on behalf of the rest of the state when all he knows is radically liberal Austin.

If his own wife can’t trust him, why on earth should I?
The baggage problem? There’s no baggage. Never was.

Do the right thing, Texans!
We couldn’t agree more. If If there was another viable candidate right now, we would have no problem uniting behind that person.
